People always tell me how much they want to go on a Disney Cruise and this is usually the number one question they have about it. While it can sound expensive, it definitely has great inclusions and a level of service that make the price worth it.
But there can be ways to get the best price possible and make the dream come true on an affordable plan. By the end of this post, you’ll know how to book your Disney Cruise, plan for the best room for your family, how to break up the costs, grab some of the best priced days, and know exactly what you’re getting for your money.

On one end of pricing, a 3 night cruise for a family of 4 on the Disney Wish in January 2023 can be just under $2300 for a Standard Inside Stateroom that sleeps 4 with a queen bed, convertible sofa, and upper pull down bed. The seating and sleeping areas can be separated with a convenient privacy curtain.
Upgrading to a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom can start from $50 more per person and provide an extra space with more square footage, as well as, a large porthole window.
There are 2 types of balcony cabins: the Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah and the Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah. The staterooms increase in space and both provide private verandas and split baths which feature a bathroom (vanity, sink, shower and tub along with an additional half bathroom (vanity, sink, & toilet). These start increasing from about $50 per person as well with several levels of categories which are relevant to the floor they are on and whether they are in the front (forward), midship, or back (aft) of the ship. If your budget allows, I recommend category 4E on the Disney Wish which has an oversized private veranda as well.
Suites on the Disney Wish are all concierge categories and pricing can be doubled or more from the standard pricing, ranging from $1,500+ to $5,900 per person. Available suites range from the Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah to a 1-Bedroom Suite, the 1507 sq ft. 1-Story Royal Suite with Verandah (sleeps 6), the 1759 sq ft. 2-Story, Royal Suite with Verandah (sleeps 6), and the 1966 sq ft. Concierge on a Disney Cruise
When you book a concierge category, you will enjoy exclusive access to dedicated areas on the ship. These areas include the Concierge Lounge where you can enjoy complimentary food and nonalcoholic beverages offered throughout the day. In addition to the Lounge, you will also have access to the private sun deck with 2 whirlpools, a wading pool, cushioned lounge chairs, and a full bar stocked with water and refreshments.

Spa experiences
In addition to spa treatments and salon services, you can also experience the Rainforest Room. Currently, you can book the rainforest room all to yourself for your party of up to 10 people. You will have 1 hour and 45 minutes to immerse yourself in the showers, steam rooms, and whirlpool. Availability may depend on the cruise ship, starting from $175 for the session.
Dining
- Palo – Enjoy Northern Italian cuisine for Brunch or Dinner from $45 per person.
- Remy – Delight in the French inspired menu with options from a Champagne Brunch ($75 per person) to Dinner ($125 per person) or a Dessert Experience ($60 per person).
Transfers from Orlando International Airport (MCO)
There are many ways to get from Orlando airport to the Cruise port. If traveling during these still changing times, I recommend flying into the area a day before your cruise. If heading from the cruise port straight to the airport, plan your flight for mid afternoon or later to save yourself the stress and worry after your pleasant vacation. If heading to the amusement parks in the area, it might be best to go after your cruise if COVID testing is still necessary for boarding when you travel. No sense in risking a decline to come aboard after all of this anticipation and preparation.
Ground transfers between Orlando International Airport and Port Canaveral are available on embarkation and debarkation days only, and can be purchased for $39 per Guest. If you have added a Pre or Post cruise hotel stay to your Disney package, you will need to ensure your reservation is updated by calling guest services or your travel agent.
When to take a Disney Cruise?
If you’re looking for the lowest crowds probably ever, I would say book right now. If you want to still take advantage of the final Star Wars at Sea Days, you have to move quickly as the last one in 2022 is March 5, 2022.
If you need a bit more planning but off peak pricing, look for September, January, and February dates. You can currently book through May 2023.
What is the best age for a Disney Cruise?
Any age that desires a Disney all-inclusive experience is a good age for a Disney Cruise. But, I’ll admit that there might be a sweet spot age for the 3 – 12 crowd. They get to enjoy the coolest kids clubs at Sea with visits from their favorite Disney characters. It’s a great family time experience for all whether you decide to watch your favorite Disney movie from your cabin or the pool.
Disney World VS Disney Cruise
This is one of those questions that really has to do with your own preference. I admit that I am biased and love cruising. With that being said, I have also been to Disney World as a visitor from the North on a budget, as a local annual passholder, as a Disney fan, on a splurge, and in some of the many ways one can enjoy a Disney World visit and I’m still leaning towards cruise. Here’s why:
- It’s relaxing. The lines and crowds are far less.
- You have access to your own private space in between the characters, the pools, and the food.
- Kid’s club (this really shouldn’t need any explanation).
- You get to travel (you can live the island life and explore together as a family or by yourself without the kids).
- All-inclusive (your food and basic drinks are included).
- If you can only do one, I say try the cruise. Unless you don’t like cruising, then your choice is clear – Disney World.
Compare Disney Cruise Options
There are 4 Disney cruise ships (Wonder, Magic, Dream, & Fantasy) with a 5th on the way (Disney Wish). Your choices for destinations range from the Bahamas and the Caribbean to Hawaii, Europe and even Transatlantic cruises. First time cruisers from the United States may be looking to start with 3 or 4 night cruises from a nearby port, such as Port Canaveral or Miami in Florida. Other continental U.S. departure ports include San Diego, CA; New York, NY; Galveston, TX; and New Orleans, LA.
